This season has felt a little like a comeback for me.
Last February I had major knee surgery, and over the past year I’ve been slowly rebuilding my strength and routine. It hasn’t been dramatic or fast. In many ways, it’s been quiet work. Returning to the basics and trusting that the small habits done consistently still matter.
Some days that meant celebrating things that once felt automatic: a pain free walk, a steady workout, or simply noticing that my body was getting stronger again. It reminded me how much progress often lives in the small things we repeat over time.
That process has brought me back to something I see with clients all the time.
Progress rarely comes from doing everything perfectly. It usually comes from returning to the small habits that keep us grounded.
So many people I talk to say some version of this:
“I know what to do… I just can’t seem to stay consistent.”
“I know what to do… I just need to get back into it.”
And most of the time, it’s not about motivation. It’s about trying to build consistency without a structure that supports it.
Life fills up. Work gets busy. Family schedules change. One missed workout turns into a skipped week, and suddenly it feels like you’re starting all over again.
But the answer is rarely a complete reset. More often, it’s about choosing one simple habit and letting that rebuild your momentum. An anchor that the rest of your structure can grow around.
If you’re feeling a little off track lately, here’s something practical you can try this week:
Choose one anchor habit. Just one. Not a full overhaul. Not a 30-day challenge. Not “starting Monday.” Just one habit that supports your health.
That might look like:
• Taking a short walk after dinner
• Prepping protein and vegetables for a few days
• Going to bed just a little earlier
• Scheduling one strength-focused workout this week
The goal isn’t perfection. It’s consistency. Protect that one habit and let it become the foundation for the next step.
Over time, small habits shape how we see ourselves. And the way we see ourselves influences the choices we make.
Consistency builds identity. Identity builds results.
If you’re working on rebuilding strength, improving your nutrition, or simply creating more consistency in your routine and feel like some structure and support would help, I currently have one opening for online coaching.
But whether you’re working on this on your own or with guidance, I hope you’re finding your way back to the habits that help you feel strong.
For me, this past year has been a reminder that progress doesn’t always look dramatic. Sometimes it looks like showing up for the basics again and again.
And sometimes a comeback starts with something very small.
